It has been a great pleasure to be a Co-PI for the ADVANCE Hispanic Women in STEM project in Puerto Rico. Last week, we had a poster presentation at the National Science Foundation’s annual ADVANCE PI meeting, and then we had the ADVANCE Hispanic Women in STEM Workshop II in San Juan, Puerto Rico. It was a great opportunity to work with faculty throughout the island, and to present to Chancellors and Deans from three university systems, plus independent universities in PR.
I thank all of my colleagues in PR for helping to make our projects stellar!

With Dr. B. Zayas and Dr. A. Byars-Winson, members of our March 2014 team, standing “with” the women who participated in our first PR conference in October 2012.
It was a packed weekend. I had to chance to go to Trujillo Alto, to celebrate the wedding of a student at Los Jardines del Castillo. Felicidades a Melissa y Matt!
I also celebrated my birthday, so it was a pleasure to share with friends and colleagues in Puerto Rico.
My birthday celebration after the conference was wonderful! Thank you for the Sheraton Puerto Rico Convention Center. It was wonderful to have my birthday “Merienda” on the rooftop balcony. I had all of my favorites, including quesitos and empanadillas from Facciola – Panadería y Repostería in Cupey … I love that place! Thanks to Molly Hardigree who during a past project, bought me a dozen quesitos when I was working in her office. Now I must have quesitos y café con leche in PR. I’m spoiled! Thanks to my husband for making my party happen, and for all of the friends who joined us for a wonderful day on the roof!
Even my purse had a good time.
